Mr. Jim Zechinati, Director Engineering, MBA Polymers, Inc.
9:00-12:30

MBA Polymers will carry out a workshop covering the challenges and opportunities facing the automobile recycling industry. The automotive recycling industry is well-developed and provides a valuable service that has been traditionally focused on the recovery of re-usable parts and ultimately the recycling of the majority of the metals contained in automobiles.

With the growth of non-metallic material (especially plastics) content in automobiles and increasing international concern regarding the disposition of the by-product residue generated from the recovery of the metal fractions, economic pressures and legislative mandates are leading the recycling industry to identify, develop and implement additional recovery options. This workshop will cover the following main topics:

  • A high-level characterization of the existing automobile recycling industry
  • The changing automobile recycling landscape:
    • Legislative pressures
    • Economic pressures
    • Competitive pressures
  • Challenges to addressing the pressures and the changing landscape
  • Options and opportunities for the recovery of additional material from automobiles and other end-of-life durable goods
  • Examples of success stories
